Mission House- Lighthouse Kesennuma

$2,714 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 19 people in 19 months
My wife and I have been coming to Japan for the last 5 years  on our vacation time to do volunteer mission work. This past year, I retired from my job and we sold our home and moved to Japan, to continue our mission work full time.

Since our arrival in August of 2017 we have been  doing volunteer work around the community and serving in a local church (see link below for more details).

At the end end 2017 we were able to take the next step of establishing a base for ministry by purchasing a vacant house. It is in a good location. We are excited about how God will use this place restore this community.

The house is old and requires renovations to make it a suitable place to house christian volunteers who want to partner with us in sharing the love of God.
With this place we will be able to provide low cost lodging, language support and local connections to the community. We want to serve both the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Japan. While at the same time offering a place where we can care for those who come to care for others. By living side-by-side in the community and serving the needs of the community we have an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

We will call this  place, "Kesennuma Lighthouse".  This symbolizes the affect the word of God has on people as they turn from the darkness and see the truth in the light. It is also symbolic of a guide to safe harbor which is meaningful to this fishing port town.

We will use the money to renovate the kitchen, bath, toilet, windows, floors and ceilings so that it is a comfortable place for those who come to work.

We want to have the facility ready to accept volunteers in the Spring of 2018.

Please pray for us and if you are able please send financial support.

Blessings,

Keith and Eriko

Hello,

I am so glad to be able to share this video showing the results of the renovation on the Kesennuma Lighthouse. Before I give you more details I want to God and all those who are praying for us. A double thank you to all who have supported this work.
As of the end of June the contractor was done. We were able to move in at the beginning of July. We spent all of July and part of August doing renovations inside to make it suitable for visitors. There is still much more to do but, we have reached a point where we can start using this place for community outreach.
Things that still need to be done are: complete the siding on 1st and 2nd floor. change the wall paper of the Fusuma ( Japanese style doors ). Install pipe for pellet stove. Install HVAC unit in living area. Paint the roof and trim all the way around. Repair the entrance way roof. Repair cracked and damaged concrete around the foundation. Replace the gutters.
Thank you for you support.

Blessings,

Keith and Eriko

Since late May, students with learning disabilities come to Lighthouse garden every 2 weeks to get some experience caring for a garden. Cultivating, pruning and harvesting. Skill that can be used in developing character and friutful relationships. One of my English students who likes gardening stopped in to help as well.

For the last few days I have been painting the roof. There is still much to be done to restore this old house. Once the roof is painted, I think the biggest part of the renovation is over. We are looking at September for the month we can start activities at the Lighthouse. Thank you for your prayers and support.

God Bless,
