Fight for Joe

#FIGHTFORJOE beat Glioblastoma

Joe has always been one to give especially to kids, he has coached football for over 12 years. But now he needs our
help. Last year on June 19, 2022 Joe’s whole world changed when his right side went numb and was rushed to the ER. A
week and a half later he had a craniotomy at the University of Pennsylvania, and the right side of his body was
paralyzed. While waiting for the pathology report Joe was transferred to Acute Rehab to begin working to gain
movement again in his right side. Anyone who knows Joe knows he is a hard worker, and you can’t keep him down. PT
and OT 3 times a day and slowly things started to come back. Then our worst fears came true Glioblastoma (GBM) grade
4, the most aggressive form of Brain Cancer.

Expenses
Joe and his wife have been out of work since last June 2022. Joe’s wife Dana drove him to radiation everyday to the
University of Penn for 6 weeks, Drs. Appointments, physical therapy, and monthly MRI’s. Along with the cost of Dr’s
copays comes travels expenses to Philly and the loss of salaries. In December they also had to start paying for medical
coverage COBRA which is an added expense too. The stress of not having both incomes has been hard, but also knowing
Joe wasn’t home alone and safe was the best decision for them at the time.

Setbacks
In December Joe had two more tumors appear on the opposite side. He started Radiation again in January. After
healing from radiation things seemed to be going well until his birthday May 19, 2023. He woke up with a horrible
headache, and 5 days later had his 2 nd Craniotomy. So now we wait for the MRI results to see what we can do next to
battle this beast!!!!

Despite the prognosis Joe has had the best spirits. His goal has always been to go back to work, and ride his bike. He
still actively rides his Peloton and is one of Kendall’s biggest fans. This has been one of the most humbling experiences
for Joe and Dana because they aren’t ones to ask for help. They have always done it together, and now they are leaning
on others. Joe has been a part of the youth football community, many cycling groups, and they both have leaned on the
high school football community throughout this journey. Its Joes positive attitude that has gotten him through this far,
and he continues to fight and beat this horrible disease.
