Help the Kerschkes Kick COVID!

If you haven't heard what's been happening with Rob and Susan and their family, please read on to learn about how they're doing and how you can help. As most of the country is beginning to turn the corner on COVID, the Kerschkes are just getting started.
In late January, Susan started having what she thought was the start of a cold. Shortly after that, Rob also developed symptoms. However, his symptoms continued to worsen, which prompted Rob to get tested for COVID. A few days after Rob tested positive, Susan did also. Rob's condition gradually worsened. On February 3, Susan drove him to the emergency room and Rob was admitted.
The next day Rob was moved to the ICU. He continued with many ups and downs over the next weeks and by the end of February, his pulmonologist reported severe damage to both lungs, and they made plans for a transfer to Chicago. They were referred to a transplant team in preparation for a double-lung transplant. Stalled by the need for 2 consecutive negative COVID tests, Rob stayed in DeKalb.
Now, in mid-March, they are optimistic about Rob coming home soon. However, a lung transplant is still a possibility. With no certainty about when he’ll be strong enough to work again, he’ll be on oxygen, steroids, and insulin, and have months of physical therapy. They've experienced financial insecurity and mental health challenges, and while they are SO grateful to be making homecoming plans, there are more difficult days ahead.
Reducing financial stress of medical expenses and prolonged missed work will help this family attend each other and to supporting Rob's recovery. If you're able, contribute here to help the Kerschkes kick COVID!
