Kerry's Fight!

On September 3, Kerry was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma - a type of lung cancer. A 4.5 cm mass was found in his upper left lung after a series of pneumonia-like illnesses had him hospitalized several times over the summer. Once that mass was biopsied, we learned that the large mass is cancer and there are a few other areas in the lungs that could also be part of the illness.
After seeking advice from thoracic oncology surgeons at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, we have made a decision on surgery and treatment.
On Wednesday, September 23, 2015, Kerry had surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina where we learned that the cancer is in all four lobes of his lungs. Thankfully, it has not spread to his lymph nodes or anywhere else.
Now the plan is to have the cancer genetically mapped to determine what course of chemotherapy Kerry will face to combat the cancer. We will not know where he will receive the chemotherapy or what kind of chemotherapy until we know the genetic mutation of the cancer.
As there will be expenses incurred from the surgery and ongoing treatments, travel expenses during the surgery and treatments, lost wages for Kerry during this time, and more, we have set up this site to allow those who want to assist us the opportunity to do so.
Thank you from the bottoms of ouir hearts for all of your support. This has been a crazy journey since June 11 and there are a few more mountains to cross until we are on the other side - but with those of you alongside us on the march to get there, we will!
Love to all!
