The following was created by my dear, loving friend, Christy Walter. But due to technical issues and my ability to post updates, had to be changed listing me as the creator.
December 30, 2015, Kerry's life was altered with a call no one wants to receive. 2 hours after her MRI, the Neurosurgeon called to deliver the devastating finding: Brain mass. Jan 4, brain biopsy performed followed by an agonizing 9-day wait for path report : Astrocytoma, Stage 3. (motor area of brain resulting in no movement of right foot - mobility strictly dependent on walker). Cancer, Malignant, Paralysis. Words that take your breath away. Stop you where you stand.
Kerry: devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. Steadfast, hard worker. For those of us blessed to call her "friend" our lives are all the better for her smile and laughter. SHE IS STILL KERRY! But now is she in a battle for her life! On Feb 5th, she will have "wide awake" brain surgery at KU with the goal to resect as much of the tumor as possible without causing further paralysis. End of Feb, 6 weeks of daily radiation, chemotherapy, and physical therapy will begin with periodic MRIs to determine if tumor is shrinking.
Kerry would NEVER ask for monetary support, and we have set up this fund with her begrudging permission.
Please take a moment to donate what you can, ANY amount helps! All funds will be used for Kerry's medical expenses, recovery, and other needs surrounding this illness.
We thank you for your support, your thoughts, and prayers!
