At 10pm on January 22nd, Dawn Lunt lost her battle with several illnesses she had been fighting for the last few months. Dawn is the beloved mother of my dear, longtime friend and business partner Kerry Dixon. Kerry has been at Dawn's side nonstop for the last two weeks and therefore has not been able to work. Anyone who knows Kerry knows that she is a self-employed single mother of two beautiful children. When people who are self-employed miss work due to family emergencies like caring for a sick loved one, they miss out on income. There is no paid time off, no berevement leave or pay for the self-employed. This is going to be a very hard time for Kerry, as she will need to take yet another week off of work to grieve and make plans for Dawn's service all while still caring for her little ones.
