Kerry's Aqueduct Cat Project
Donation protected
Recently I was notified of a cat frequenting a spot two blocks from my apartment. I was sent a photo of an orange male tabby. I instructed the finder who to contact but later discovered the cat hadn't been trapped.
I saw the orange cat one morning around 5am wedged between fences dividing an aqueduct and my complex.
I decided I would try and gain his trust. It was believed he was once a pet having been originally spotted with a red collar on. I thought I could trap him and find him a home.
I started feeding in a cat tent nestled under trees and in bushes. To my surprise, a very young mama cat began showing up regularly with her two kittens. After just a couple of visits, I could get within a foot of her.
One evening, I left after feeding Momma and daughter to return to Papa, Momma and son.
Suddenly, from the darkness, a small cat came running toward me. She jumped into my lap and began purring and rolling over! I wasn't planning on this but I took her home. We named her Rosie.
The next night I went back and had my mind set on getting the trio. I needed to get Mama Hazel, baby Pecan and baby Wallie. It didn't take much coaxing to get the babies to walk into a carrier. Momma debated and decided she wasn't coming with us.
I am still trying to get Momma, Papa (will most likely tnr) and the orange tabby. I was told yesterday there is yet another cat, white with black patches, in the neighborhood. So there may be more.
I am creating this fundraiser for several reasons: 1) to purchase cat food for these cats; 2) to purchase feral cat shelters from etsy; 3) to have all cats tested for FIV/Felv; 4) to have all cats spayed/neutered and 5) to have all cats vaccinated.
The plan is to socialize Hazel, Pecan and Wallie and find them a home; find Rosie a home and assess; socialize; home or release any other cats that are trapped during the course of this project.
