In August 2016 I will be flying out to Accra, Ghana with Volunteer Basecamp to provide and train others in Speech and Language Therapy for children with multiple disabilities. During my time in Ghana I will also be working with various other charities (check out blog for details) and local organisations on education, increasing rights and raising awareness for those with disabilities.
For many children and adults with disabilities in Ghana their life is devoid of human rights. There is still a deep seated stigma and marginalization is common place. The most fortunate lack facilities, equipment and the abudenace of expertise we have in this country. At the other end of the spectrum in some rural areas some children are still killed on the basis of their physical disabilities, others are subjected to violence, entrapment, painful and unecessary 'treatments'. I want to be part of bringing this to an end.
(for a closer look at the extreme end of these issues have a look at the following bbc documentry: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b064449w/the-worlds-worst-place-to-be-disabled)
Your donations will help to provide support and resources to Volunteer base camp, YAPGhana and various other charities to be confirmed. I will update regularly on the blog as this partnerships are confirmed.
