Kerri & Made have left Gili Trawangan island on Tuesday morning. Friends and colleagues who have lived there for many years suggested they try to get to somewhere safe that has not been affected by the numerous earthquakes & aftershocks. Tourists have fled the area and travelled to Bali, Lombok to fly home.
The initial mayhem on Monday & Tuesday has settled down and Kerri & Made were able to get on a private chartered boat with a few other people to make the 20 min sailing to Lombok where Made's family home has been devastated by the powerful earthquakes. So far there have been over 15 quakes since 29th July with 6 of significant magnitude to cause wide spread devastation and destruction. 100's of after shocks have also been felt and the area it to experience strong seismic activity for the next few weeks.
Kerri has decided to remain in Tanjunk region on the N.W of Lombok, the worst affected area, to help locals in what ever way she can. Today she managed to use a local taxi driver to travel further south towards Mataram to find an ATM machine that works and with the help of the taxi driver she was able to aquire 2 generators and some basic supplies. Due to damage to the roads the journey took over 4 hours and should have taken approximately 1 hour. Kerri & Made are extremely grateful for all your messages of support, prayers & well wishes you have made.
So in the short term Kerri & Made are trying to help Made's family and neighbours rebuild their homes and lives by staying in the area.
This is were we need your help to raise money so they can buy essentials and help provide the basics to people who have lost their homes and livelihoods and in some cases family members & friends.
