Many people know Kermit as the first funeral therapy dog of Texas and the sidekick to Melissa, the Modern Mortician. Kermit is a pup who has stood beside grieving families, funeral professionals, students, and complete strangers during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
Now, he needs help.
Kermit needs FHO surgery (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to relieve pain and restore mobility in his hips. We have managed his condition since he was a pup, from aqua therapy to reiki, lasers to accupuncture, massage to specialized rehabilitation. Over time, it’s become increasingly clear that he’s uncomfortable, struggling with movement, and needing more support just to do everyday things he loves, and it is time to take the next step.
This surgery gives him the chance to live comfortably again and comes after much research, consideration, and encouragement from his current specialist.
For friends new and old, Kermit has been my partner through grief work, funeral education, advocacy, and some of the darkest moments of my own life. Many people online know him as the first therapy dog working in funeral service in Texas, quietly bringing comfort into spaces that are often heavy and painful.
He’s helped calm students before exams, comfort grieving families, and bring joy into conversations about death and healing.
Now it’s our turn to help him.
Funds will go toward:
Surgical costs estimated to be $4500-6500
Recovery equipment and supplies
Rehabilitation and mobility support
Travel expenses related to care
Any amount helps, even simply sharing the fundraiser.
If Kermit has ever made you smile, helped you feel seen, or brought comfort during a difficult season, we would deeply appreciate your support.
Thank you for loving him with me.
