This is Daniel,
Daniel is my brother. He is in so much pain everyday. It has become unbearable for him. This is my plea to help bring my brother back to our family.
Daniel was a fit and healthy 38 year old with no history of medical problems in his life. Then his life turned upside overnight.
He has an amazing, supportive wife, who has now become his full time carer. They have 2 beautiful young daughters. Right now the only way Daniel can spend time with his daughters is to lay flat on the living room floor because he cannot sit upright or stand for longer than 5 minutes without passing out and experiencing excruciating disabling head pain that can last for days. Daniel describes it as though he is being tasered in the head and it never stops.
In January, Daniel felt a rupture in the left temple region of his head and immediately collapsed. He was rushed by ambulance to hospital. On physical inspection and after numerous scans the doctor ruled out a stroke. The suspected cause of the brain issue was viral meningitis. But no test was given and Daniel was sent home to recover.
Daniel did not recover. Daniel was bedridden for 2 weeks and after the family pleading with doctors for further tests they agreed to do a spinal lumbar puncture to test for meningitis. The meningitis test came back "inconclusive". Sadly, we later found out the test was performed incorrectly by a junior doctor with the doctor puncturing more than one hole in his spinal fluid canal. So now not only did he have a severe neurological disorder, he also had a spinal fluid leak from the flawed lumbar puncture procedure, leaving him with low protective fluid surrounding his brain and in an even worse condition than before the test. This caused brain sag, nerve damage and double vision in both eyes with a big risk of seizures.
Over the next month we took him to 6 different hospitals. They told him "headaches, go home and call your doctor for medication." Daniel called his doctor, explained the debilitating pain and passing out. The doctor said "Daniel, that doesn't sound like headaches. If it happens again, go straight to hospital." We were going nowhere. This was extremely distressing for our family, especially his 2 young daughters who just want their Daddy back.
Finally, Daniel could take no more and with no help from public health, we had to take him private for immediate treatment.
We saw a brain surgeon at BMI Manchester, who after numerous discussions and multiple tests, diagnosed him with the spinal fluid leak but was unsure about the original neurological condition causing him to collapse in excruciating pain when upright. Because of the severity of the condition, an operation to seal the spinal fluid leak was booked and performed within 1 week.
All together this has cost the family thousands of pounds with more neurology medical bills coming in all the time which the family can no longer afford to pay for. He has worked so hard for his wife and 2 daughters. They are now at risk of losing their family home and the business he has spent 12 years building.
In the last month alone Daniel has been rushed to hospital 12 times in so much pain and was told there was no immediate threat to life and so has not been treated. Each time being sent home with a request to call his GP for further investigation. Which has done nothing for the neurological pain he is suffering.
Daniel has now been suffering for 173 days of unbearable pain. With his only remedy of remaining flat and still. He has more neurologist appointments to investigate further and cure his neurological condition, which has left him unable to stand up and live a normal life. Daniel's next private appointment is with a neurosurgeon in the coming weeks to discuss the next set of tests to finally get a diagnosis and treatment. The family have helped out as much as they can with bills and hospitals fees etc but now we need your help.
Since creating this gofundme fundraiser the neurological pain Daniel is suffering from has now began to spread down his neck, chest and his limbs. He is now left with no strength in hands to hold objects. We are now concerned that as is condition is now worsening there is a greater sense of urgency to get him cured before his condition becomes irreversible and we lose him forever.
