Hi! We are the two kids in the picture, Aidan is on the left and Inez is on the right. We are middle school students from Wesley International Academy, an Atlanta Public Schools Charter School, who are going to China to study at Nanjing University in the summer of 2017. We are thankful to have been selected from almost 50 applicants based on our academic achievement, essays, interviews, and passage of the level three Youth Chinese Test (YCT).
We are going to China to speak and study Chinese language and learn about Chinese culture. We do that at school for 50 minutes a day, but now we will do it every day in classrooms and out in "the real world" with a lot of native speakers. In addition, on the weekends, we will have the opportunity to visit several cities in China, see many Chinese cultural exhibits, visit a rural orphanage. The program lasts for a month.
Ever since this program was started at our school, we wanted to be a part of the amazing experience. We knew it was a great opportunity when we both got accepted, but we also knew it would cost A LOT. We are saving our money and working to earn money by making and selling homemade jewelry and selling bottled water at neighborhood festivals to pay for the trip, but we need your help. Any donation will be accepted graciously and we will send an email of appreciation and thanks.
To show our appreciation, we will send a pair of homemade earrings to any donor who contributes $25 and if you donate $50 or more we will send you a homemade sea salt, coconut oil and lavender hand scrub that smells great.
This summer we will be writing in a blog about our experiences in China and we would like to share our updates with you.
