Hey folks!
Big Edit: Though I've been undergoing cancer treatments for well over a year now, my final chemo treatment will be at the end of January 2024! My reconstruction surgery will be in March, and I will have to take 4-6 weeks off to recover. I will be able to use some PTO, but for the most part, that time will be unpaid.
If you know me, you probably know my story. I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in my left breast in September 2022 and proceeded to do chemo, three surgeries, three weeks of radiation, and then more chemo over the last year plus.
All things considered, I’m doing really well. My tumor has been removed, and I’m in remission! Unfortunately, remission in my case still required additional chemo treatments since some cancer was found in my lymph nodes, and this is the best way to ensure that I’m cancer free going forward.
Last fall, friends, family, and the community raised money for me, and that has enabled me to pay my hospital bills and supplement my income to this point. The physical toll of chemo has been pretty significant, and working full time isn’t possible for me at the moment. Besides pain, illness, and discomfort, I am often extremely sleep-deprived and really struggle to focus on work.
I had to take a lot of time off in 2022, as you might imagine. Between February and April, I took time off for three surgeries, and I had to take off almost a month in June for radiation. Additionally, due to my employer switching insurance providers, my yearly out of pocket max and deductible reset after nine months instead of a year.
So, I just need a little more help to make it through this thing! After I finish chemo, I’ll have reconstruction surgery and hopefully remain cancer-free and get my health back! Thanks for reading, and thank you so much for the support. Anything helps!
Much love to all,
Kenzie
