In September of 2016, Kenzie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, at the age of 14. After undergoing aggressive chemo treatment, she was declared cancer-free by January of 2017, and Kenzie was officially in remission for the past 2 years!
Unfortunately, a recent swollen lymph node in her neck brought concern from her doctors, so she had a CT scan to see if there was anything going on. On May 1st of this year, Kenzie's worst fears became true....she learned that her cancer had returned.
The CT and PET scans have shown that there are multiple areas affected... several nodes in her neck, some areas of her abdomen, and a mass (cluster of nodes) in her chest that are putting pressure on her heart and trachea. Surgery on the mass in her chest is not possible at this time, due to the fact that it is intertwined with the major vessels of her heart, so the plan, at this time, is chemo and radiation to KICK this cancer...a 2nd time.
On May 10th, Kenzie had her 1st dose of meds to start beating this disease: 3 chemo agents, an immunotherapy agent, and a medication that will hopefully protect her from heart damage due to one of the chemo agents. The great news, though, is that her Bone Marrow Biopsy came back NEGATIVE! So...it is Stage 3A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Kenzie has a long, rough road ahead, because of where the cancer is and how aggressively they’re treating it, BUT our Kenzie is a FIGHTER, and she will KICK this!!!
We've created this page on behalf of Kenzie and her mom, Sarah, to help raise money to cover the many expenses that will arise during Kenzie's trips back and forth to the hospital...treatment, scans, medicine, hotel stays, travel expenses, food... and to hopefully help in those times when it's hard for her to smile. We want them to know that they have an army of warriors fighting with them and praying for them, and that NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!
