MaKenzie & Devon’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
MaKenzie and Devon have been a part of so many journeys together and with their undeniable love for each other they can conquer anything. Motorcycling has always been their therapy. Their chance to get away from life and feel free. But life can be so unpredictable.

On September 13th, MaKenzie and Devon were out on their evening ride when things took a turn. Devon and MaKenzie were involved in a very bad motorcycle crash and were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital. They both went straight to the OR for surgery.

Devon has a 22cm open wound on his lower leg, that was debrided (wound cleaning) and a wound vac was placed. More possible surgeries for debridement to follow and to start physical therapy.

MaKenzie went in for an 8 hour surgery on her left leg. She has multiple open fractures with muscle damage, vessel damage , tissue damage, crushed knee and possible nerve damage. They pieced back some of the bones but some are not able to be put back together. We were told before she went in that if it’s life or limb they will take her leg. She came out of surgery with her leg, but still unsure if they will be able to save it. Vascular put back together some of the most important vessels and they are watching them closely. She has a good pulse on the inner side of her foot, but can’t feel the outer side. She can move her toes a little bit. She has numerous wound vacs on the open wounds. She fractured her femur/ tib/fib. She has been intubated since surgery and they have been trying to keep her pain under control along with keep her blood pressure from dropping. So they keep her pretty heavily sedated. She is frustrated about not being able to talk and let us know what she wants. We are using a letter board for her to point at!

One of her biggest things besides wondering if her leg is still there is that if Devon is ok?

MaKenzie and Devon are on opposite sides of St. Mary’s campus, constantly asking about each other.

She will also go back to the OR for more debridement , check for bleeding( she has lost A LOT of blood), and (has been given A LOT of blood), check the vessels that were fixed and possibly piece a few more bones together. Continue to follow Facebook for more updates

In the meantime, please help in donating to help their journey to recovery not so overbearing. We thank you all so much for the love and prayers you have given them and our family! We truly appreciate all of the encouraging words and ends amounts of support for these two! Keep the prayers coming! With Godspeed, they can get through this and with the love they have for each other, they can conquer anything! It will be a long road ahead for these two but with hearts as big as theirs, this too shall pass with undeniable love and determination!

Thank you so much! *Donations will be toward medical expenses and any other obstacles that come their way!
