Kenyan Deaf School - Clean Water Project

Hi my name is Andy,

Back in 2008 my wife and I (UK teachers) alongside Sylvester (Kenyan headteacher) had the vision to start a school for deaf children in the village of Birunda village near Kitale town in Kenya. Since then we have been able to raise more than £75,000 to build and equip the school.

Over the years our little school has grown from a handful of children to nearly 100 pupils. As the school has grown we have been fortunate to have the support of the Kenyan Government, local churches and other donors which has led us to now have a completed school. We cater for day scholars and boarders throughout their primary education.

Unfortunately, this year the schools water supply has dried up. We have always relied on our shallow well, rain water harvesting and county supply. Due to the lack of rain our well and tanks are dry and the county supply is no longer reaching the school.

This means that our pupils once again our pupils are having to collect water from a nearby river. It is dangerous, the water is dirty and it takes up a lot of valuable time and energy.

We are hoping to raise £10,000 before Christmas 2023 to enable us to drill a borehole, line it and install a solar powered pump. This will allow the school to have a reliable, ample, clean water supply to meet their 6,000 litres a day requirements.

To achieve this my family and I are attending craft events to sell Kenyan made items and are also seeking support from donors. We have already raised £5,400 and hope that we can add a further £1,600 in craft sales. This leaves us with a deficit of £3,000 which is where you come in.

Please help us achieve our £3,000 goal to enable our deaf community to have access to clean water.
