Surgery & Healing in Kenya: Nyamira Medical Mission

Tax deductible
In January 2026, our team traveled to Nyamira County, Kenya to partner with clinicians and staff at Nyamira County Referral Hospital. We came to serve in a setting where people often live with treatable conditions far longer than they should—not because care doesn’t exist, but because the equipment and basic supplies needed to deliver safe, timely care are limited, and families frequently face overwhelming out-of-pocket barriers.

We’re raising $100,000 for one purpose: to purchase the specific medical equipment and supplies the hospital teams told us they need—so more patients can receive safe surgical care, women can access effective screening, and clinicians can monitor mothers and babies with confidence.

This fundraiser is organized through Medical Missions Foundation, which has established partners and relationships with medical suppliers. Funds raised will go toward purchasing mission-critical supplies and durable equipment that can be placed into service in Nyamira.

Why this fundraising matters

There are few places where giving carries this kind of immediate return. In Nyamira, the gap isn’t willingness, skill, or compassion—it’s access to equipment and supplies. When essentials are missing, clinicians are forced to improvise. When they’re present, outcomes can change quickly.

This fundraiser is designed to be direct and durable: funds go toward the specific items the hospital teams need, placed into service where they’ll be used every day. Your donation becomes a tool—one that keeps doing its job for patient after patient, month after month, long after the mission is over.

And sometimes, the impact is as stark as this: the right tool at the right moment can be the difference between a stillborn baby and a healthy one. Not because anyone doesn’t care—but because in a resource-limited setting, care can only go as far as the equipment allows.

What your donation will fund (our $100,000 goal)

1) Women’s health and cervical cancer prevention (HPV screening + clinic essentials) — $35,000–$45,000
Kenya faces a heavy burden of HPV-related disease. We want to help the women’s clinic build practical screening capacity and reduce “lost to follow-up” by supporting:
  • Rapid HPV / cervical screening capability and supplies
  • Clinic exam essentials (specula in multiple sizes, gloves, lighting, sterile supplies, swabs, antiseptic, basic procedure materials)
  • Handheld Dopplers to monitor babies during pregnancy and labor

2) Urology & OR visualization — $30,000–$45,000
Urology teams repeatedly asked for the foundational tools that allow them to see and treat. Funds will support:
  • A urology “tower” / endoscopy visualization system (the monitor/camera/light-source backbone for urologic procedures)
  • Cystoscopes to support diagnostic and procedural needs and reduce bottlenecks

3) Anesthesia and airway safety — $15,000–$25,000
  • These tools improve safety during surgery and recovery by giving clinicians earlier warning signs and better control:
  • End-tidal CO₂ (capnography) monitoring to improve respiratory monitoring during anesthesia
  • A McGRATH video laryngoscope for safer, more reliable intubation—especially in difficult airways

4) Post-op recovery, nursing tools, and records — $5,000–$10,000
  • Because recovery shouldn’t depend on scarcity:
  • PPE and sterile supplies, wound care materials, dressings
  • Basic pain control medications (acetaminophen/Tylenol and ibuprofen)
  • Stethoscopes and basic monitoring tools to support nursing care
  • Computers/basic documentation tools so patient records can be updated and care continuity improves

Our commitment to transparency

We will prioritize durable, high-impact equipment and responsible sourcing (including vetted refurbished options when appropriate), coordinated with the hospital’s clinical leadership so what we purchase matches real workflows and training needs. We also plan to share a simple post-mission update on what was purchased and placed into service.

If you’re able to donate, thank you. If you’re not in a position to give right now, sharing this fundraiser is a real and meaningful contribution.

From our hearts—thank you for helping bring safer, more reliable care to Nyamira, Kenya.
