Kenya Keepup With Drag?!

Donation protected
Greetings extraordinary humans,

For over ten years, I inhabited the world of education in a variety of roles. After some much time and reflection, I am in the process of transitioning from one stage to a new one.
Drag has been part of my life since my childhood. RuPaul, Divine, and the New York ball scene captured my imagination. Through those sources, I was able to see myself and begin the journey in discovering who I was to become.

Performing has come to me with little effort. I developed a love of dance thanks in part to Janet Jackson. I studied her videos religiously, from my living room to empty classrooms in my school. I found a freedom in movement that I did not find in some of my academic pursuits. My mother played records spanning many genres and that move fostered my love of music. After finding little success in playing the clarinet and the flute, I found the viola. Its rich, deep, alto tone and uniqueness among the string instruments stood out to me. Because of my attendance at a school that balanced rigorous academics and rigorous arts, I dabbled in many art forms that fostered my love for performing exponentially. This wondrous exploration of my artistic capabilities extended into college, grad school, and the professional realm.

So, you may be wondering why drag and why now? The short answer is because I’m ready. The long answer is that drag changed and saved my life(as cliche as that sounds). The art of drag marries all of the interests I have - acting, singing, dancing, music - in a nice and raggedy package. At heart, I am an educator, whether it be in a classroom or a bar. Drag is a way for me to challenge myself and others to be themselves authentic and to rail against systems and ideologies that are intent on erasing their authenticity. I can perform an eccentric piece and encourage folks to vote and use their privilege to enable and empower without losing a beat. Additionally, I’m a great performer and love bringing joy and enlightenment to people.
The purpose of this fund is to help Kenya get off the ground. Drag is challenging, rewarding, and expensive as all hell. From wigs to costumes to cosmetics, the supply list adds up (and as a teacher, I know all about costly supply lists). In addition to getting the material things, I wish to enroll in sewing and wig making class. Those are highly important skills for any modern drag queen. If Kenya wants to take over the world, she has to be like Scar and be prepared.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Consider your donation not only as a tax write off, but as an investment into the future of an edutainter on the brink of stardom. Follow me on social media to find out the latest in performances and other happenings with Kenya:
