Kentucky or Bust: Robotics Team to 2019 Nationals!

Donation protected
Our SkillsUSA Chapter is proud to have the opportunity to send one of its Mobile Robotics Teams to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Technical Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on June 23-29, 2019.  The two-person team and their advisor must attend together and buying flights from Oregon, renting a car to go to the cheaper airport, lodging for 6 nights, registration for the event as well as evening meals for six days is a huge ask for a small high school in Aurora, Oregon.

Still, both students are extremely excited to go to such an event.  Corrina is a senior this year and it is her first year in SkillsUSA and her second year as a computer science and robotics student.  Her dream after graduation is to incorporate an interest in nursing and pediatrics with her love of robotics and become involved in the groundbreaking work being done in medical robotics.  She has a big heart for children and is determined to make a positive difference in their lives.  The very definition of a SkillsUSA leader!

Evan joined the robotics club as a freshman and quickly decided that he wanted to complete the engineering, the computer science, and the manufacturing career pathways before his graduation in 2021.  As a sophomore, he is already more than halfway through two of these pathways and hopes to finish all three by graduation.

SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization endorsed by North Marion High School because it teaches students employability skills that go beyond interviewing and resume writing. Part of their coursework requires those skills as well, but SkillsUSA supports the acquisition of technical and leadership skills that will serve students in any career they're interested in pursuing after graduation.

Due to the short time for fundraising, the entire chapter would be grateful for your support of their $4,950 request.

UPDATE:  This morning (May 24), both students were notified that they are the proud recipients of the 2019 Mike Rowe Works Foundation  travel grant in the amount of $1,000 for each student.  With this award, the chapter is able to reduce its ask on this request from $4,950 to  $2,950!  Thank you to our donors so far, the end goal just got that much closer!

UPDATE #2:  Thanks to a couple of private donations through the school as well as an award from the North Marion Service Team, we are once again able to reduce our ask from $2,950 to $1,450.  The generosity of everyone has been fantastic...please continue to spread the word!
