Kent McCune’s Brain Surgery and Recovery
Donation protected
In October of last year, Dad became very ill due to a toxin he ingested. After taking a brief time to recover, he began to feel a little better and shortly after resumed his cattle commitments. It has since become evident there was an underlying condition. Between October and present day, he has dealt with debilitating migraines resulting in dizziness, confusion, and partial loss of vision and hearing. After a near miss on the icy roads of North Dakota and missing his cattle sale, we were alerted that something definitely not right with our dad. After contacting him, it became clear that he needed help. This was more than a “cowboy up” situation. The cattle family set in motion to get Dad the emergency care he needed with no family nearby to help.
After being admitted to the hospital in Bismarck, it was discovered that he has a tumor on his brain. His sister Kristie flew from Texas to determine the best course of action. Being that this was an emergent situation, the doctor cleared him to fly to Dallas to not only be close to family but to also receive medical treatment at one of the best neurological hospitals. After waiting for many days, he is finally scheduled for surgery. Surgery will be conducted on Tuesday afternoon, February 18, to remove the mass. They will biopsy post-op and we will come up with a plan of care at that point. He is expected to make a full recovery and be able to get back to it in as early as 8 weeks.
Due to his condition, Dad had to miss several commitments during this busy time in the cattle industry. We are starting this Go Fund Me as a way to help with the costs of his lengthy hospital stay, surgery, and post operative care. After his hospital stay he will need to stay at an Airbnb near the hospital in order to receive his outpatient care. All funds raised will go towards medical costs as well as costs of living for the weeks or months following his operation. Both of his children, Mandy and Colby, will be his main caretakers during this period.
We want to thank you all for your love, concern, and prayers. The way dad’s cattle family has shown up for him is nothing short of a miracle. We feel so blessed to have you all to call on during this time of need and to know that there’s so many friends out there who have his back!
