Kensington Multiplex Soccer Fundraiser
For those of you who don’t know, I have been fortunate enough to spend the past several years coaching soccer at the Kensington Multiplex, where three of Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood schools combine to compete in interscholastic athletics. Like many schools in the city, our budget is insufficient, particularly when it comes to athletics.
As a former high school athlete, I recall the joy, structure, and sense of belonging that came with being part of a team. A major part of this was the uniforms, warm-up tops and pants, and countless t-shirts that came with being a member of the team at no cost to us as players. Due to the aforementioned budget, we struggle to pay for uniforms, let alone the extra gear that many well-funded programs possess.
After several seasons of asking our student-athletes to provide or pay for their own uniform shorts and socks, I am asking for your help in my attempt to make their high school soccer experience as similar to those of well-funded schools and programs as possible.
Funds raised from this campaign will be used to purchase a variety of gear and equipment; primarily new uniforms, practice gear, and team shirts. All of this will help to provide our student-athletes with a sense of pride and connectedness to the team as well as their respective schools.
These are great kids who deserve more than they have been given. I hope you will help me with this small step toward providing a more equitable interscholastic playing experience for our student-athletes.
Thank you!
