Kens Weg aus der Armut in den Hörsaal

Update: Wir haben es geschafft! Ken ist nun Jurastudent an der Mount Kenya University! Ohne die vielen großzügigen Spenden wäre dies nicht möglich gewesen. Ganz herzlichen Dank! Jetzt geht es darum, die Lebenshaltungskosten zu sichern.

Hallo, ich bin David und sammle Spenden für Ken (Kennedy Uzwanyi). Seit Ken vor einiger Zeit seine Schulausbildung abgeschlossen hat, ist es sein großer Traum, Jura zu studieren, um seine Familie aus der Armut zu befreien und anderen zu helfen. Bisher war er jedoch weit davon entfernt, die Realisierung seines Traumes finanzieren zu können.

Ken verdient als Putzkraft 120 € (20.000 KSH) im Monat und kann sich daher das angestrebte Jurastudium nicht im Entferntesten leisten. Er wohnt gemeinsam mit seinen fünf jüngeren Geschwistern und seinen Eltern unter widrigsten Bedingungen in Kibera, einem der größten Slumgebiete Afrikas. Kens Einkommen dient zurzeit dazu, seine Grundbedürfnisse und die seiner Familie (Ernährung, Unterkunft) zu sichern sowie den Geschwistern zumindest eine Schulausbildung zu ermöglichen.

In der Hoffnung, das Geld für ein Studium doch noch (Darlehen, Stipendien) auftreiben zu können.

hat Ken sich um einen Studienplatz beworben. Und ihn bekommen! Allerdings blieben seine Bemühungen um ein Stipendium oder ein Darlehen erfolglos.

Dank der bisherigen Spenden sind inzwischen die Studiengebühren für ein Jahr 183.000 KSH (ca. 1100 €) zusammen gekommen Der erste Schritt auf Kens Weg in den Hörsaal ist geschafft! Das bisher gesammelte Geld reicht, um die Studiengebühren für das erste Jahr im Jurastudium an der Mount Kenya Universität zu bezahlen Jetzt geht es darum, die Lebenshaltungskosten zu sichern.

Dabei geht es darum, für ein Jahr die 120 € im Monat zu sammeln, mit denen Ken seine eigenen und die Lebenshaltungskosten seiner Familie bestreitet. (1440 €). Dazu noch etwas Geld für Material, Fahrtkosten etc. (460 €)

Zusammen mit den Studiengebühren wären das 3000 €. Damit könnte Ken sein erstes Studienjahr als Vollzeitstudium absolvieren.

Gelingt es uns, diesen Betrag zu sammeln, werden wir Kens Leben nachhaltig verändern. Er selbst wiederum würde in die Lage versetzt, anderen zu helfen.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

REF: FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWARDS UNIVERSTY FEES

I wish to bring the above issue to your attention. Having completed my Secondary studies some years back I had the zeal to advance my studies by applying for various professional courses in some universities where I got admissions but lacked fees thus unable to proceed with my studies. This is because I come from a humble background of five siblings where am the eldest and my parents’ income is inadequate (less than a dollar a day), therefore they could not afford the huge university fees required. Priority was only given to other basic necessities i.e. food and shelter and trying to make sure that my younger siblings attain at least the basic education.

I had this burning passion in me that no matter how long it will take I’ll try my best to study and attain a professional course to pull my family from this yoke of poverty. This has been a challenge for me since getting a good job in Kenya that pays well so that you can save some money for education is impossible, one must have good academic papers say a degree or some professional qualification to get this job. This has been detrimental to me almost giving up since I could only get informal jobs that are rarely available based on my basic papers. I have been jobless for some time until few years ago when I got a job with a cleaning company to provide cleaning services among other duties. I love my job so much though I would like to develop and improve economically, have a better future, and help other people in society who may require my help. This is in achievable for now since my current salary of Sh20,000 (130.9 USD) a month is not enough. It can only sustain my basics i.e. food and shelter for me and my family but cannot pay for my education among other things.

Studying law will be essential to me and the society in various ways like, defend and sensitize the society on the importance of knowing and fighting for their human rights particularly the women, children, elderly and people living with disability. Together with the likeminded lawyers and relevant civil organization we’ll work on offering civil education and pro bono services to these people who feel their rights have been infringed upon. Regarding the people living with disability, I will help in policy formation through lobbying members of legislation to come up with a policy that exempt them from taxes among other issues that affects them with respect to law.

For the said reasons, I have decided to reapply for LLB (Bachelor of Laws) course at the Mount Kenya University, preferably evening classes so that I can work during the day to cater for my basics and attend my classes in the evening. I have an offer letter attached herein among other documents for your perusal and am really worried because am supposed to start classes hopefully in January 2024 and I don’t have this fees or anyone or any place where I can get this amount of money .I therefore humbly request for your generous support towards this course so that I can achieve this noble objective, You are the last hope that can save my life and make my dream a reality by granting me support in terms of school fees towards my studies and I promise to work hard in my studies so as to better my life and be of great help to those who are less privileged in our society, Kenya and the entire world.
