Ken's Birthday Shot!

Christmas morning 2020 was Ken's last meal...that tasted and smelled right. Thankfully it was an amazing one - homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee. Unfortunately, by lunch, Covid had eliminated all of his taste/smell abilities. Over the coming year, his senses started to return but in a horrible, distorted way. Now, nearly three years in, he still has a continually changing, although never correct, distortion of taste and smell. Everything he used to love is just plain gross. It would actually be better if he couldn't taste/smell at all - it's just that bad. He's discovered some things he can enjoy, such as homemade bread, and usually anything caramel/maple -but obviously that leaves a LOT out. It is testament to his character and God's spirit and strength within him, that he has remained positive and continues to make the best of it. But it really is hard and does get him down at times.

So far, there has been no sure-fire way to correct this distortion, however, many people are seeing significant -and sometimes complete - correction through what's called the "stellate-ganglion" (nerve) block. The theory is that it resets the sympathetic nervous system and allows the nerves to function properly again. Unfortunately, it's experimental - there's no risk or downside, it just isn't covered by insurance, and we just don't have the cash to spend on it right now. With Ken's birthday being next week, and at the prompting of some good friends, I thought I'd invite you to wish him a happy birthday and perhaps be part of his healing. At the very least, please pray that the shot WORKS!
