In Memory of Benjamin Donald Troester
My name is Marla McDonald and I am the sister of Ben Troester. It has taken me a while to gain the courage to write this but, here it goes. I express much sadness to say that Ben Troester passed away January 7, 2016, at the young age of 24, from a tragic drug overdose. His passing still doesn't feel real to me and it seems that the emotions and grieving cycle have no end. I question everything and I get angry thinking about how many people are affected by addiction. Every day I wonder what things would be like if he were still with us. His absence is especially felt by his family. Ben left behind two children--Kennedy (4), Benjamin (2), girlfriend Leslie Shear, my parents, and myself.
If you knew Ben very well, you knew that he was an avid golfer who won high school golf tournaments and played on the University of the Incarnate Word golf team. He even taught golf lessons to share his passion for the game with others. He was a great father to his two children who loved him dearly. He always felt inclined to help others, even when it was an inconvenience to him. Ben was a genuine and caring person who will be remembered for making people laugh.
Ben's untimely death happened before he had time or the resources to save money for his two kids to go to college. Since Ben's kids (Kennedy and Benjamin) are still little your donations will be invested in a 529 College Savings plan and will have plenty of time to accrue interest. I hope that with your help we can offset some of the expense of college and give the kids the fair chance they deserve. Thank you in advance for any and all of your help. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and always remembered.
