The worst day of our lives... May 19th, 2018. Our 10 yr old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (a lifetime auto immune disease). He was life flighted from Dixie Medical Center in Utah to Children's hospital at UMC in Las Vegas, NV. He has been in ICU since we arrived here. And has a few more days to go. Preston is absolutely terrified of needles. But growing stronger by the day. He needs 3 pokes a day and 4 shots once we get released. They poke him more right now, just trying to find a balance. This is a forever lifetime change for ALL of us involved in his life. It will be manageble and get easier in time, I know. But, With both of his parents out of work this week, and we are going to have to cut back our hours just to be by his side at least these first 3 months, we can already feel the financial struggle. I can't even imagine the cost of the lifetime supply of medicine and equipment needed.
Straight from the mouth of Preston,
" Dad, I wanted a PS4 for my birthday, Not diabetes "... This kid breaks my heart. But still managed to find some humor.
After what he's been through this week, he deserves that PS4 for his birthday. I can't do that and pay for meds, without the help from others. If anyone can help ease our situation and financial stress, it will be extremely appreciated!! For the next 3 months he needs his mom, dad or someone that has experience with this, to be by his side to measure, count carbs and monitor his food/drink intake. And give or watch him take insulin. Which means we will be missing a lot of work that we can't afford.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, concerns and suppprt!
