Kenilworth Cats TNR

Hi! I'm Ali, and I live in a neighborhood in South Elgin with a lot of feral cats. My goal is to get as many of them spayed and neutered as possible through TNR (trap-neuter-return), and to catch kittens for socialization and adoption through Anderson Humane. So far I've TNR'd eleven cats and caught nine kittens.

Cats are not native species and they are not good for the environment. Plus, outdoor life is hard on cats. We don’t want to hurt the cats that already live here, but we do want to prevent more kittens from being born so that the neighborhood doesn’t get overrun and so the cats that are already here don’t have to compete any more for resources. TNR is the best way to accomplish this. You can read more about TNR here: https://www.aspca.org/helping-shelters-people-pets/closer-look-community-cats

At Anderson Humane's clinic, the TNR spay appointments for females cost $65-$70, and neuter appointments for males cost $53. So far I've done seven spays and two neuters (click here for receipts ).

Anderson Humane's clinic has a long wait list for TNR appointments, so I've started going to Fox River Animal Wellness Center in Elgin. The costs there are $95 for a spay and $75 for neuter. So far I've done one spay and one neuter.

#10 March 25: female, tabby
#11 March 27: male, grey and white long hair

Actual costs so far:
  • 1 Humane trap = $75
  • 4 spays x $70 each + 3 spays x $65 = $475
  • 2 neuters x $53 each = $106
  • 1 spay x $95 each
  • 1 neuter x $75 each
  • TOTAL = $826

If you are able to donate to help cover costs, I would really appreciate it - every bit helps! Thank you for helping control our community cat population!
