Kenia Cleto Recovery Fund

On July 29th, 2021, eighteen-year-old Kenia Cleto and her ten-year-old sister Nicole were involved in a tragic two-car accident that resulted in life-threatening injuries for both young ladies. Kenia, who directly received the impact of the other vehicle, underwent multiple surgeries on her brain, limbs, and organs (15 surgeries to date) and lay comatose for several months. Kenia is now able to open her eyes and has regained small movement in the extremities on her right side. She still has not spoken or otherwise communicated with her family or caregivers. Although less severely injured, Nicole was comatose for six weeks. Nicole has regained her ability to walk, move, and speak, but the accident resulted in behavioral changes that have thus far kept her at home as well.

Prior to the accident, Kenia was an engaging, active, and faith-filled young woman about to begin her second year of undergraduate nursing studies at UTA and to continue teaching in the Faith Formation program at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Richardson. At Skyline High School, Kenia served as president of the Health Occupations Students of America organization and was selected for a UT Southwestern mentoring program (see video ). She was also captain of the cross-country team. She is currently bed-ridden, at home with her parents, Jose and Janet, and her younger siblings Jose and Nicole. Kenia’s parents have not worked since the accident as they both need to be home to provide the care that Kenia requires and tend to her physical needs.

Since neither Jose nor Janet has been able to return to work, they’re on the verge of becoming housing challenged. That and the supplies and medications upon which Kenia and Nicole depend are draining the modest resources they have left from a GoFundMe page generated last August immediately after the accident.

The Cleto’s are a strong Catholic family who refuses to give up on their daughters’ lives and recoveries. Please consider donating to their cause so this family can become functional again and Kenia and Nicole can continue, God-willing, their long, miraculous roads to recovery.

El 29 de julio de 2021, Kenia Cleto, de dieciocho años, y su hermana Nicole, de diez, estaban involucradas en un trágico accidente de autos que resultó en lesiones potencialmente mortales para ambas jóvenes. Kenia, quien recibió directamente el impacto del otro vehículo, se sometió a múltiples cirugías en su cerebro, extremidades y órganos (15 cirugías hasta la fecha) y permaneció en coma durante varios meses. Kenia ahora puede abrir los ojos y ha recuperado un pequeño movimiento en las extremidades del lado derecho. Ella todavía no ha hablado ni se ha comunicado con su familia o sus cuidadores.
