I’m finally getting the surgeries I so desperately need and I need your help to do it!

My name is Kendell and I am a transfemme woman of colour living in so called “Vancouver”. I am a drag performer, visual/media/performance artist, and most of you will probably know me as my drag persona Maiden China.

Over the past eight years drag has helped me come into my own, and introduced me to the queer community and my chosen family. Throughout my years of performing I have always strived to be as emotionally connected and vulnerable as possible, and often shared my experiences with gender and positionally in real-time.

Eventually I was able to discover myself more deeply and connect to my trans identity, and I started transitioning in 2020. Starting hormones has been a bumpy journey (second puberty is something people just shouldn’t have to experience!), but nevertheless so wonderfully gratifying.

Transition is SO EXPENSIVE, and working as a full time artist doesn’t always afford the breadth of what we need. I finally have a facial feminization surgery (FFS) date booked for mid-June in Guadalajara and I am reaching out for help from my community, and their extended communities, with humility and gratitude.

This is something I have wanted for so long, and have thought deeply about for years. This surgery will help bring me safety, gender euphoria, and usher in a self confidence that a large part of the world wants to rid trans women of.

To be able to look into the mirror and not pick apart the details with anxiety is something I want so much. It feels indescribable how much this means to me, and I’m almost in disbelief that it’s actually happening. But I certainly can’t do it alone!

Donations towards this fund will help cover the cost of the surgeries, medications, travel, food while away, and rent/groceries during the time off work that I will need to heal. I will be off work for eight weeks including the time in Guadalajara. The amount I need to cover all of these costs is $35,000.

Any amount that you are able to give is life saving! If there are any remaining funds they will be put towards breast augmentation surgery (I am in the process of waiting for a surgery date).
