My sister was born with Cerebral Palsy on June 18, 1998. She passed away in Glendale Adventist Hospital around 2:45 PM April 17, 2020 at 21 years old. She would have been 22 years old this year.

She was blind, bed-bound, and a wheel chair user. She ate her food through a gastrostomy tube (G-Tube) which is connected to her stomach. And due to her having Chronic Lung Disease, she breathed in oxygen through her tracheostomy tube using a ventilator 24/7. She also has severe scoliosis curvature in her spinal column.
When she was born, the doctors told my parents she wouldn’t live long. But, she proved them all wrong by reaching her early 20’s. She was a strong, resilient, bad ass mama that never gave up. She always kicked everything in the butt that came her way — surgeries, hospitalizations, illnesses, etc. One of her recent surgeries consisted of removing 85% of her intestines due to a ruptured appendix.
Through it all, she was always smiling back at us.
On March 30th, 2020, she was brought to the emergency department at the hospital due to a high fever where we later found out she had a lung infection and given antibiotics. And due to the coronavirus pandemic, doctors soon tested her for possible Covid-19 virus infection. But, it came out negative. My sister was then sent home right away because she is a negative Covid-19 case and to limit her exposure to possible infection/cross-contamination at the hospital.
On April 17, 2020, her heartbeat began to slow down and her blood oxygen levels lowered. My parents called 911 (The first time ever in my sister’s 21 years of life), and paramedics brought her to Glendale Adventist hospital. They found out that she still had her lung infection which started to affect the rest of the organs in her body. She flatlined in the emergency department, where hospital staff tried their best to revive her. Doctors told us that blood was coming out of her mouth, tracheostomy tube, gastrostomy tube, and anus. Staff told us that blood was all under her bed and floor beneath her. She died in a pool of her own blood which we have presumed was due to her ribs puncturing her lungs and GI tract (stomach and/or intestines).

My family and I love and miss my sister so much. She was a tough cookie anda bad ass fighter.
