Kendall's Breast Cancer: "Kendo"
Donation protected
Kendall is a friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother and nurse, in no particular order. On June 12 she was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma Stage 2b. It is Her2 positive (this makes it aggressive), Estrogen positive and Progesterone positive breast cancer ( a triple positive), at the age of 33.
Kendall's treatment has already started. She will undergo 6 rounds of chemotherapy (over a 5 month period), a double mastectomy (which will take place around November), followed by several months of radiation and reconstruction. This is an aggressive treatment, for an aggressive cancer.
She is used to being in the caregiver role, not the other way around. Her son, Tyler, was born with Prune Belly Syndrome and had serious complications as a baby eventually requiring a kidney transplant. The next 8 years helped shape Kendall's love for nursing, devoting kindness and compassion to patients and their families and a thirst for knowledge to know more, to give back and to rely on God. Just last year Kendall became a Registered Nurse for Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando. She has thrived in her position and has learned and grown so much as a nurse, caretaker and continual student of nursing and the human body.
Kendall has overcome many obstacles and persevered in many difficult situations. Her sister came up with a slogan for Kendall long before she was diagnosed with breast cancer and it is: Kendo as in Kendall can do anything. When another difficulty would come along, or an added stressor, her sister would say, "Kendo" because she has a strong will and zeal for life and the power to prevail. She can do this because of her love for others, the way she gives back, the strength of her trust and faith in God, the love she has with her husband of 13 years and with her friends and family.
Kendall has been fortunate enough to be able to work the two weeks she is not in chemo (her treatment is every three weeks). However, come November, when she has surgery, she will not be able to work due to the physical requirements of her job and the time and movement restrictions required in her healing process. After surgery she will have radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks preventing her from working, and then another surgery after that. She does not know an exact timeline yet, but thinks she will be unable to work 4 to 6 months.
As you may know or can imagine, even though you are sick, the bills still keep coming along with the added expenses of new medical bills, additional fuel expense and other unforeseen expenses that come along with having breast cancer. Our goal is to help alleviate the stress that is caused by loss of income and money anxieties so that she can focus on recovering and healing. Any donations, while not expected, are appreciated. They are so grateful for the love and kindness of their family and friends and for their Church home and faith and for you taking the time to read this and extend your love and support. While their financial loss will be higher when all the costs of wages and additional expenses are added up, the goal has been set at $20,000. Every litte bit helps and they are more grateful than you know.
God Bless
