Remembering Kenai
Donation protected
Kenai is a 6 year old, neutered male Siberian Husky.
A few days ago, he was brought to the vet because he was nonstop coughing and retching up bloody foam. The original thought was kennel cough, but his radiographs proved to tell a much scarier story. He was immediately transferred and hospitalized with Evolution Veterinary Specialists in Lakewood, Colorado.
Kenai was diagnosed with a ruptured pulmonary bullae and a pneumothorax. At one point he coded in the hospital waiting on his CT Scan, but they were able to resuscitate him and got him back. At that point, there was no time to do the CT, he needed emergency surgery to find the leak in his lung.
Surgery was not as successful as we would have liked. The surgeon found multiple leaks, and had to remove 1 and a half lung lobe. He had a chest tube placed, and a blood patch pluerodesis was performed in hopes it would seal the remaining leaks in his lung.
He is currently in critical condition, and is receiving around the clock care. They are continuing to drain entrapped air in his pleural space, and he is on supplemental oxygen. They are needing to keep him fairly sedated to keep his body calm so he can heal. His health insurance has capped out at $10,000 and the medical bills are continuing to add up.
He still has a guarded prognosis. We have come this far, and he continues to fight and show minor improvements.

Kenai is an extremely loved dog by his owners, friends, and the community. He's lived a relatively healthy life up to this point. I hate asking for help, but I am just a vet tech myself that does not have endless funds. We are willing to go into exponential debt to save his life. Any little bit helps. Bless ❤️
