On Monday, December 14th, 2020, our friend, Ken Kurowski, passed away due to complications from an accidental fall in his home. He fell down the basement stairs and hit his head, rendering him unconscious and hemorrhaging in the brain. Medics were at the home within minutes and he was immediately sent to the hospital for emergency operation. Despite all efforts, they were not able to save him.

He was born August 25th, 1946 in Gary, Indiana. He attended Lew Wallace high school and graduated in 1964. He attended Indiana University and graduated from the School of Business in 1968 with a Bachelors in Business Management.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Army on September 26th, 1969. While in, he served as a Combat Engineer at Fort Carson, Colorado. Reaching the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged September 24th, 1971 and decided to move to Aurora, Colorado.

In 1973, he met the love of his life, Jo, and they married on June 19th, 1976. Their son, Jon, was born July 23rd of 1982.

He was upbeat, cheerful and always ready to talk anything Indiana University, definitely anything IU Basketball, and he was very proud of the Hoosier Sports Nation site, an online community dedicated to discussing Indiana University Sports, that he helped to develop. He was a pillar of the online community and spent endless hours in his retirement helping it grow with his dedication and thoughtful discussion, fostering an inclusive environment where people from all walks of life could discuss subjects they were interested in from anywhere in the world.

He had a passion for cooking, especially grilling & smoking, and always invited people over for holiday gatherings to share in good food and conversation. He loved Lou Malnati’s pizza and Italian Beef sandwiches, so much so that he would order and have them shipped directly from Chicago to enjoy throughout the fall and winter months. He was especially proud of his polish cabbage rolls, a dish of his I was personally fond of.

I’m starting this campaign to help his wife, Jo, with the all of the bills & expenses that come from losing a loved one and to help alleviate some of the burden with monthly bills in the near future. Retired from a lifelong passion of teaching future generations, Jo receives a small pension. Because she receives a pension, she is not entitled to any of Ken’s retirement income and will need to handle all of the monthly expenses going forward with just half the income now all the while dealing with the sudden loss of her husband. Please send a kind message and donate what you can to help this family who needs us right now. We want to support his family as they grieve and learn to live a new life in the months to come.

Thank you to all who decide to support this cause.
