Kelsi is in the Trauma unit at the University Hospital in San Antonio and will be there for several days yet.  She has five broken ribs around her heart and a small crack in one of her vertebrae.  Yesterday morning one of the new horses crashed her into the wall in the barn at Retama.  The horse then landed her full-weight on Kelsi's chest. 

Kelsi's not a stranger to race injuries, but they never get easier or more minor.  In 2010, she suffered a shattered vertebra  and several cracked ones at Sunland Park Race Track.  After surgery, she sported two rods and multiple pins in her back.  The rods and pins saved her on Tuesday, as did her excellent vest and LAS helmet.  The vest brand is from Savannah Protectors in Puerto Rico. 

Kelsi will be unable to work for at least a month and needs help with the hospital bills.  As yet, we don't know what the cost will be, but they won't be cheap.  I'd also like to be able to cover her rent, etc. for a couple of months.

The above amount I've set as the goal is in Canadian funds.  I'm her mom and I live in Canada.
