Kelsey’s Third Fight Against Cervical Cancer

As many of you know, Kelsey was diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer in February 2023. Kelsey’s wedding was just a few short months before her diagnosis. During a time that was supposed to be full of happiness and excitement about the future, our family was filled with shock and sadness. Kelsey approached her diagnosis in much the same way that she approaches everything in life, with strength and positivity, and without asking for an ounce of help.

Kelsey’s first round of treatment was a combination of chemotherapy, internal radiation, and external radiation. Unfortunately, her post treatment scans showed that she had to continue her fight. She was now diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer; her cervix still had cancer cells and now she had a lung nodule positive for cancer. Her next round of treatment consisted of radiation to her lung and a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Following this regimen, her scans showed that her fight was still not over. (WTF!) Her cervix still had active, aggressive cancer cells.

In July 2024, Kelsey decided to make the trek to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas for a second opinion. We needed someone to think outside the box and find more creative treatment options. MD Anderson delivered. They exceeded our expectations, offering more treatment options and a fresh approach. Also, we found out that Kelsey may be eligible for clinical trials in the future. Even better, MD Anderson offered to collaborate with Kelsey’s doctors at UNC Rex in North Carolina! She’ll receive a chemo agent every three weeks in North Carolina and travel to Houston every 3 months for scans and to check in with her oncologist. This will be her THIRD round of treatment.

Kelsey has been working full time as a nurse throughout her treatment. Not only is being a nurse physically taxing, but you are selflessly putting others’ needs before your own for 12 hours at a time. To us, she is a true hero.

That’s why we created this account. We want Kelsey to be able to focus all of her energy on kicking her cancer to the curb once and for all, not worrying about anything else, especially finances. All funds raised will assist with travel to MD Anderson, and with medical expenses.
