Kelsey Buchheits road to recovery
Donation protected
On Monday February 4th, Kelsey Buchheit went back to the doctor as what started off as flu-like symptoms quickly turned into severe pain and overall numbness. So much pain that she was unable to eat for three days or hold her own four month old baby. She was admitted to Allen Hospital and diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, an autoimmune disorder.
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system—the network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord. GBS is estimated to affect about 1 in 100,000 people each year. Fortunately, most people eventually recover from even the most severe cases of GBS. Unfortunately, the recovery process is uncertain as it could take weeks to years. She is currently receiving IVIG therapy to stop the nerve damage. She will then be moved to inpatient rehab where she will need to rebuild strength in each damaged nerve before she can return home.
As if that isn't enough to take on, Kelsey has been holding her head up and staying strong through so much.
Kelsey’s mother unexpectedly passed away late October, just weeks after the birth of her youngest son McCoy. On top of grieving for her mother, planning her and Ryan's wedding, enjoying the short newborn stage, and keeping up with her 4th grade son Caleb, they now have finances on the mind.
This family needs to focus on spending time together and the road to recovery instead of worrying about medical bills. Please help this amazing family as they work toward the road to recovery.
