A year ago I would never have thought I’d be able to run 5K, but I have set myself the goal and decided to take on the kelpies half marathon on the 26th of September 2026. I will be doing this in memory of my best friend Mark, who sadly passed away in 2022. Running this race is my way of honouring his memory while raising money for an amazing charity that supports families affected by mitochondrial disease.
The Lily Foundation is the UK’s biggest charity dedicated to fighting mitochondrial disease which is a group of rare genetic conditions that prevent the body’s cells from producing enough energy to function properly. These conditions can affect people of any age and impact multiple organs, often leading to life-limiting complications. The charity funds vital research to find better treatments and, ultimately a cure, whilst also providing support and information to affected people and their families.
Mark was an amazing person who lit up any room he was in, with his cheeky banter and positive attitude no matter what he was going through. I feel honoured to have known him and to have had such a good friendship with him.
If you are able to donate anything, regardless if it’s big or small I would be extremely grateful. Every contribution will go on to support the lily foundation and its vital work.
Thank you so much in advance to anyone who donates
