Kelly’s Cancer Crusade

Kelly has never been someone to ask for help. She has always taken care of everything herself. Now is the time to offer her some help! On May 31st, after 4 years of going without a well woman exam, Kelly finally made her way to the doctor, and after just 6 seconds into a routine breast exam her doctor discovered a lump. It was that fast and completely unexpected.

The following week was a whirlwind. Appointments for a mammogram and ultrasound and then a biopsy. On June 11th, 2018 the call came: “Can you come in the office today to discuss your results?” No one gets called into the doctor’s office to discuss good results. Kelly was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive breast cancer (invasive means it’s in her lymph nodes). Kelly is in excellent health and has no family history of cancer. Breast cancer can strike anyone. Breast cancer does not care and does not discriminate against those people that are otherwise healthy.

Her initial care plan includes breast surgery (scheduled in mid July 2018) followed by 4 weeks of radiation and 5 years of endocrine therapy (the cancer pill). We will not know if she will require chemotherapy until after her surgery and more pathology results.  

These kinds of requests are very hard to write. You struggle with the person’s privacy and exactly how much to share. Kelly is a very private person and has never been very active on social media. She has two sons and lives in Austin with her long time boyfriend, Kenny. She enjoys her job at at Ali Bleu Flowers in Austin.

The GOAL for this fund is: $6500, which is the deductible on her marketplace insurance plan.  Her insurance will not “kick-in” until she meets the deductible.
