Hi, my name is Krystle and I am starting this fundraiser for my sister Kelly Valpoon as she was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). After receiving this news, she was immediately admitted to the hospital to start a strong regimen of chemotherapy. This is a very fast acting leukemia, attacking her bone marrow, that needed attention immediately. She was told that she would be in the hospital for a month undergoing chemotherapy and multiple blood transfusions. I was tested to see if I would be a match for a bone marrow transplant with a 25% chance of being a match. I recently found out that I am indeed a match! We will need to go to Stanford University in CA once the cancer is below a certain percentage to receive the transplant. After she receives my bone marrow, she will be at Stanford for another month (or longer) to see how her body adjusts. Her and her husband Russ, have a 7 year old sweet boy named Otto. The speed at which this has come at us has been extremely stressful. Any help you can give us would be welcomed for medical expenses, child care, travel costs as I live in Portland, OR (fun wigs ) and the ongoing treatment as she continues to fight leukemia. In addition to Kelly’s diagnoses, we lost our mother Brenda Leifheit to ovarian cancer in 2020 and our dad Joe Savard passed away from various complications in 2009. As Kelly and I are the only two remaining, without any other siblings or parents, this has been a challenging time for us.
