In January 2024, our friend Kelly was diagnosed with cancer of the liver, with tumors in the liver, gallbladder, and kidney. She was in the ICU at CHOMP in the second week of February to have surgery, and is now home, thankfully, but still in a lot of pain. We (Christina and Jessica) are starting this page as a way to help Kelly keep her community updated on her progress as she navigates this cancer journey. We're hoping you can check in here, see how she's doing, send her message of support and love (on this platform rather than email, if you can), and, if you have bandwidth, provide a little help. She's already had one surgery and is facing at least one more, along with radiation, chemotherapy and related treatments. Some of the treatments can be conducted locally and others will take place in San Francisco, depending on the complexity of what needs to be done. The competing demands of caring for her father, George, and managing all the appointments, insurance, and assessment of various treatments, while also finding the time to rest and recover, is overwhelming. Anyone who knows Kelly understands how empathetic and supportive she is as a friend. They also know that she's had a tough decade on the personal and job fronts and has little in reserve - materially and emotionally - to manage the cancer journey and recovery. Basically, Kelly needs her community to rally around her and lift her up in this time. She could use our support and kindness. She is a caretaker for her father, George, and her 2 dogs & 2 cats. So far she's been managing this on her own with help from a few close friends, but it's time to broaden out this network. Many hands make light work!
