Welcome to my 50th birthday fundraiser, for a cause that means the world to me, as those who are close to me can attest. Help me save the Big Bear eagles!
Big Bear means a lot to me, for personal reasons, and I discovered the famous Big Bear eagles, Jackie and Shadow, about a year ago when their three eaglets hatched. At a time that was very dark for me, following the presidential election, this eagle family gave me hope. Watching the two of them defend their habitat and nest from predators, and watching them care for their eagles gave me hope by watching creatures carry on. It also gave me hope that one day we will care for all living creatures, enough to pass laws that protect them. I would watch them during the day and check in on them at night. I would (and still do) have a window up on my computer, just listening to the sounds of their nest and their habitat. Volunteers provide 24/7 support and access to the eagles with the live cam (links below), and they moderate online discussions to help teach people about the habits and instincts of eagles. For years, this group of people (and Sandy, who just passed away) have been fighting against the development of the land surrounding the eagle nest. A recent land purchase, despite local uproar, has made protecting the eagles' future very precarious.
Therefore, I am raising funds to protect their habitat. Save Moon Camp is an endeavor lead by Friends of Big Bear Valley and San Bernadino Mountains Land Trust in order to purchase land back from a developer, to save some of the habitat by Big Bear Lake. In order to save their habitat from development, they need to raise $10 million by the end of July. They just hit $1 million the week of March 9th, so we are 10% there!

It isn't ideal, but I chose to use Go Fund Me to collect money so that we can see how much my friends and family group can raise. I will cover the fees that Go Fund Me charges, which is 3%, so that all money donated will go to saving Moon Camp. Additionally, using this will allow me to give you updates along the way and to thank you for participating in saving this important habitat. I will also be transparent and update everyone once the money has been sent and will post a receipt showing everyone the day it happens. PLEASE join me in saving the wildlife in this area.
