This morning, I received a text message from my dear friend, Kelly Gorski.
It read...."I don't want to die."
My bestie, Kelly Gorski, needs help. As some of you may know, a few years ago, Kelly fought breast cancer and became a survivor! Thank God!
During her treatment, she had extensive radiation therapy to her chest.
A few weeks ago, Kelly went in for a routine check-up and the doctor felt a large lump near her breast bone.
A CT scan showed a very, very large mass entwined over her heart and left lung.
After a needle biopsy, the Cleveland Clinic has no idea what the tumor is and how to proceed. It is extremely rare, extremely aggressive, growing fast and time is of the essence. The tumor is in an extremely dangerous place - on her heart and lung. They don't know if they can or should operate...or use chemo or radiation. They still can't figure out what it is - even though many pathologists reviewed the initial biopsy tissue.
Right now, the doctors at the Cleveland Clinic think it may be either a cardiac sarcoma, a spindle cell sarcoma or perhaps an angiosarcoma. However, they are not sure of anything. Whatever it is...it isn't good.
I am asking you to please donate to Kelly's fund to help her get a flight out to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, which is one of, if not the best Sarcoma Center in the world. They have spoken to Kelly and are already making arrangements to try to get her there immediately. They recognize the rare and severe situation she is in.
The funds will be used for her medical care costs and living expenses while she is on medical leave from work. Again, time is of the essence. Any contribution will help.
Because of the type of cancer she has and the location and size of the tumor, it has become a life threatening situation and she needs the top doctors, pathologists and oncologists. This tumor is extremely RARE....0.0017-0.0021% of people are diagnosed with it. It is imperative she has the top doctors on her case. If the Cleveland Clinic doesn't know what to do....you know it is a scary situation.
Kelly is presently scheduled for another biopsy today, June 9, 2017. Once the results are in, I will update the page.
