Let's help our friend Kelly the Doglady have one less thing to worry about!
With her recent breast cancer diagnosis, Kelly's got plenty on her mind: recovery from the last surgery, the pending amputation of her boobs, getting new boobs, and a million doctors appointments and lab tests, not to mention the f*****g cancer. In addition to all that, Kelly is scheduling clients for the new year and trying to keep her business going. Kelly has done everything right, insurance-wise, but the copays and bills still add up. And the effects of not being able to work are so worrisome that they are driving the date of her surgery (Dec. 17).
If you're like me, you want to help. And if you're far away, you might be wondering how. This is what I came up with: Kelly's One Less Thing to Worry About Fund.
Let's help our friend Kelly with a little fun fund that she can use to facilitate her recovery--by ordering groceries when she doesn't feel like shopping, or paying for a massage to take the edge off, or even not working on a day when she's in too much pain. I think a little financial cushion--not for the house or the bills or subsistence, but just for Kelly--can help her feel comfortable and safe and loved.
Kelly told me recently about Keystone Gravel, the 77-mile backcountry mountain bike race she did this fall, which she is rightfully proud of. There was this epic hill, and most people were off their bikes and walking, so she started walking it too. But then she said, "Fuck it," got back on her bike, put her head down, and crushed that hill.
That's how Kelly is going to get through this cancer journey: by putting her head down and crushing it. She's going to do the work, but we can make it a little more comfortable, especially during those long weeks of recovery after surgery.
Thank you for your help in looking after our beautiful, vivacious, hilarious, brave, and hard-working Doglady!
