Kelly Salinas Mobility Transport Vehicle

It has been one of life's gifts to know April and Kelly Salinas for many years. I got to know Kelly as the man who would show up with the right know-how and the right tools at the right time. He never judged a person, he simply saw a need and showed up. He never apologized for his religion or politics, but he also never judged another for their beliefs either. When our chicken coop needed a new roof, he showed up. When our bathroom flooded, he showed up. When he saw our front step board was cracked, he showed up. When our kids needed some tough love, he showed up.

Now it is our turn to show up for him. In 2019 Kelly was diagnosed with ALS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. His sweet wife April has steadfastly cared for him as she continues to work full-time to support them and provide for his extensive health insurance needs.

If you have any experience with this bastard of a disease, you know the toll it takes. Kelly, who has an amazing mind, a heart of service, and much to say and do, is now trapped. He is not only trapped within a body that doesn't allow him to speak, eat or move voluntarily; but is also trapped in his home as transferrence and transport have become incredibly challenging for April as his disease progresses.

April has sourced a used 2005 mobility van that would allow Kelly's heavy motorized wheelchair to roll directly into the side of the vehicle. With this vehicle, she could not only get him to necessary doctor's appointments, but it would open his world to attending church, going to the store (the man loves to roll through Lowes and admire tools!), see his grandkids and free him from remaining trapped not only in his body, but in his home.

The cost of a necessary wheelchair upgrade has stretched their finances. April is working 2 jobs and saving everything she can toward this used van, but there are only so many hours in the day and so much energy.

Kelly still has much to offer. I watched him recently teach his daughter to change her outlets via type from his chair. I've seen him continue to guide and serve others, but he needs to be able to get out in order to continue his good work.

Any help we can give will offset her costs of getting a vehicle that will allow Kelly to reconnect with the world around him.

Thank you for any help and if you are unable to help financially, I am positive that Kelly and April would appreciate prayers for strength in their behalf.
