Before and after photos of Kelly Rickert's home in Shaver Lake. Kelly has been the housekeeper for Natal Granite Retreat for several years. Those of you who have stayed know that she puts her whole heart into making sure everything is clean and perfect for our guests. The Creek Fire ravaged her home, burning all of possessions to the ground. She was only able to save a few items, plus her horse and dogs (and the horse had to be evacuated twice, as the first placement also ended up in the path of the fire!)
Kelly is fortunate to have a place to stay with a relative in Fresno. She has her truck, the clothing she was wearing, and her beloved animals. She is extremely grateful for the blessing of being able to get out of the area in time. She and her parents and sister were able to get down the mountain with the animals, but there was no time to gather belongings--this was a fast fire!
For now her other business in Shaver Lake is still standing (Mountain Charm, selling mountain-themed home decor.) As soon as residents are allowed back into Shaver she is going to try to get assistance in fixing the wiring at the shop so she can temporarily live there while she contemplates how to go about rebuilding her home.
As anyone in business in Shaver Lake can tell you, this year has been a tough one! First we had COVID and every rental was cancelled for several months, leaving anyone depending on tourists high and dry. Then, suddenly we had guests again, and every place was rented, but with COVID the cleaning routines got complex and time-consuming, so this added a lot of work to a packed schedule. Then, just when things were becoming stable again, the Creek Fire ravaged the forests.
Kelly is mountain-strong, and dealing with the stress in losing all her belongings while trying to figure out how to cope with no income is something she knows that God will help her overcome, with prayer. Please say a prayer for her and her family, if you are so moved. And any small amount you can donate will help her get back on her her feet, and let her know that she is much appreciated!
All funds raised will go directly to Kelly to use however best helps her cope, whether it be food, clothing, getting her electricity working at the shop, or paying her cell phone bill.
