Kelly's Misadventures with Measles

When Kelly O'Loughlin ventured to the Philippines to volunteer for a medical mission and a little vacationing, she never expected to return having contracted measles. Kelly was vaccinated for measles as child. Come to find out, 1% of the population previously vaccinated contract the virus when exposed in adulthood. The outbreak in the Philippines has already claimed 136 lives. We feel very fortunate that Kelly was on her way home when symptoms started to show and was able to be hospitalized close to family and friends. 

Prior to Kelly's trip to the Philippines, she passed her EMT certification. The medical mission was an amazing experience that allowed her to utilize her newfound skills. The people she worked with and those she helped solidified her desire to work in the medical industry. She was looking forward to getting her first EMT job upon her return. Unfortunately, contracting measles during her time abroad has brought her life to a standstill. Kelly was hospitalized for a week. She experienced all of the discomforts associated with measles - the dry cough, the irritating rash, conjunctivitis, encephalitis, and pneumonia as a secondary complication. She is still recovering - trying to regain her normal breathing capacity, as well as, vision and hearing impairments that are requiring additional testing. 

We are reaching out to you - family, friends, and people that just care.  We are asking for help to cover Kelly's insurance deductible for hospitalization. Kelly pays out of pocket for her own medical insurance. She is unable to drive, let alone work, for an unforeseeable future. The stress of medical bills, and the uncertainty of a full recovery are weighing heavy on Kelly. Please help us provide some emotional and financial support to allow Kelly to focus on more important things - like healing.
