To Mike Kelly’s Friends and Colleagues - We have a very personal request.
As many of you know, after beating cancer when he was teenager, Mike was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2015. He started chemotherapy right away which was effective enough to have surgery to remove his stomach. After more rounds of chemo – Mike seemed to be beating this disease and was able to stop the chemo treatments. Unfortunately, after a few months, the cancer came back and he started a new round of treatment. Mike has been through so much during this time, but the worst of it came during this past month. In the beginning of May, Mike and Rebecca took a vacation to visit their wedding destination in St. John. It was there that Mike started facing the most challenging part of his battle. He started to experience some complications with his disease and Rebecca did everything she could to get him the best care possible on the Islands and then had to hire a private air ambulance to get him home to Memorial Sloan Kettering. He has been in great care since arriving home and has had a few procedures to relieve some of the symptoms he has been experiencing. Mike is fighting every day for his life and his family. If you know Mike, you know he has not let this cancer bring him down. Every day he remains positive and hopeful. When we think about Mike Kelly – the first words that come to mind are optimistic, loving, caring, intelligent, talkative, passionate, and living life to the fullest- to name a few. Mike is married to Rebecca and proud Dad to his five year old daughter, Elizabeth.
This battle has been an emotional roller coaster for the Kelly Family and has left them with significant financial burdens.
