Kelly Emery Support - Medical & Life Journey
Donation protected
Kelly Emery is a loving mother, grandma, wife, sister, daughter, friend and coworker to just name a few. In a May morning of 2023 Kelly’s life drastically changed. She woke up to a tingly/numb leg and when she attempted to get out of bed, she fell. Through the wonders of technology, she was able to ask Alexa to call her husband, Gene. Gene rushed home to find Kelly sitting in the garage in need of medical attention. Once arriving to the ER, a CT scan noticed something “abnormal”. This quickly moved to a MRI that showed that there was some form of bleeding, but not from a vessel. Doctors could not find where it originated from and an additional CT showed that the bleed spot had gotten larger. The following morning the neurologist ordered a third CT scan to compare. That is around the time that Kelly’s condition worsened. Kelly’s night in the ICU proved restless and by morning she lost almost all function of her right side and became disoriented, confused and unable to speak. She was rushed into surgery and after hopes of a benign issue, her family was faced with news that no one is prepared to receive. Kelly’s bleeding was coming from a malignant tumor in her brain. Thankfully Kelly woke up from surgery alert and able to speak. The doctor wanted to follow up with an additional CT scan to assess if bleeding stopped before feeling comfortable discussing timelines. After additional CTs, the doctors were able to confirm that the bleeding had stopped.
Unfortunately, the diagnosis was Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is the fastest growing and most aggressive cancerous brain tumor. It requires extremely aggressive and taxing treatment, and there is no cure.
Kelly continues to receive constant treatment away from her home in Des Moines, in Nebraska to try to manage and limit growth of the tumor to the extent possible. Kelly and her family need support not just for medical costs, but also for meals, transportation expenses to treatment and the ability to travel to places like the beach while she is still able. Kelly’s family and friends ask for your love and prayers through this difficult journey. I am hoping that on top of providing that, we can also provide monetary support. A diagnosis like this causes physical and immeasurable emotional pain, but also takes a heavy toll and stress on finances. Please consider contributing and supporting for our loving Kelly.
