Kelly Davick's Medical Fund

These are Kelly’s words. “If there is even the tiniest chance of killing this cancer I’m willing to try almost anything to buy time at this point. I haven’t had enough time with my husband, kids, and family. The over the counter meds I take daily and the portion we pay out of pocket for medication and the time that my husband misses work. I really do worry. I have also been checking out the Mayo Clinic to see if there are more options for me.... I just need more options and I need to be able to go and do those treatments wherever they may be, I just need more time.”

What started off as some unexplained abdominal pain on June 21st 2018, quickly turned into numerous visits to the emergency room with no answers as to why Kelly was so sick and where this pain was coming from. Kelly, spent most of the summer going through numerous medical tests and hospital admissions which led to a surgical consult with a pancreatic specialist. From the testing that Kelly had received the results determined that there was a 90% chance that Kelly had cancer and a 10% that she didn’t. With all the risks and benefits weighed and no time to waste surgery was chosen as the best course of action to remove the cancer. The surgical procedure that Kelly would need to endure was called the Whipple procedure also known as a pancreaticoduodenectomy. It is a complex operation to remove the head of the pancreas, the first part of the small intestine (duodenum), the gallbladder and the bile duct. The surgery took over seven hours and the recovery has been ongoing. When the pathology came back with the diagnosis of pancreatic bile duct adenocarcinoma it was devastating for everyone. The Dr. said with surgery alone the survival percentages aren’t great, but with chemo, the hopes are that her odds of survival would increase. Of course, knowing Kelly and her spirit of survival she went ahead with Chemo because she definitely wasn’t going to give in; and she is stubborn as they come. The only issue is the rounds of chemo sure didn’t like Kelly and she went through hell being hospitalized with every single round. Her shortest stay being 6 days and her longest being 3.5 weeks. She lived life on the edge during that time suffering numerous infections enduring CT’s MRI’s MRCPS, ERCPS, X-Rays, Labs, Colonoscopies, Medications, IV’s, endless bloodwork, and now living with the ravages that chemo has on the body including a lowered immune system, brittle bones, fatigue, and infection.

In 2019, Kelly was able to get out camping a bit and smile. If you know Kelly, you know how much she loves to be out with her family in the great outdoors. To see her smile and enjoy herself was a gift from the torrents of the last year that she had endured it was a gift. However, this reprieve was short-lived when Kelly again started to experience pain and nausea which was all too familiar. She managed the pain for a while through Dr.’s visits but, it became unbearable and was again admitted to the hospital on October 25, 2019 for 3.5 weeks. Kelly was devastated to find out that she had a reoccurrence of the cancer. She at that time had a consult with Dr. Gregg who recommended a course of high dose radiation. So Kelly, being someone who never gives up started her course of 5 days of high dose targeted radiation that was only offered at 3 facilities Red Deer, mayo clinic or Toronto. Kelly and her family were so thankful that they could get the treatment in Red Deer and didn’t have to travel.

January 2020 came and Kelly was told that everything was fine; however, the CT’s and MRI’s say something different. The doctors are saying the radiation shrunk tumor at the surgical bed a tiny bit but there is also something showing in the lungs and the liver they just aren’t entirely sure what it is and of course the pancreas is the first priority right now.

There has to be options out there and hope for Kelly’s family for the future. Kelly is a loving Mother of 5 children and Wife to her very best friend her life partner Ted and she wants to be able to continue to be there for them as long as possible and watch them grow. We all need Hope for a future, so I’m asking anyone and everyone to please help me give hope and time to Kelly to find a cure or find more treatment options. We are looking for options far and wide that could help Kelly, or money that could give her some time that her family desperately needs and wants so they can spend time together. This will help pay for that time so they don’t have to worry about the financial burden of missed work or paying for treatments out of pocket.

In order to get the funds to Kelly Davicks family.  Kiera Davick has asked Sarah Maschke to be the beneficiary and collect money on the family's behalf so that they do not have to worry about this aspect of the fundraiser.
