Kelli's ALS relief fund
Donation protected
My name is Allan, and I am running this fundraiser for my sister-in-law Kelli. At only 53 years old, Kelli was diagnosed with ALS in October after a long struggle for a diagnosis. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The disease progressively affects the nervous system, causing debilitating loss of muscle control. There is no cure and it is ultimately fatal. Kelli's case is unusual because it is Bulbar onset ALS. This is the rarest and fastest progressing form and starts with loss of control of the facial muscles. Kelli's speech and swallowing are already severely compromised. Kelli will soon need a wheelchair, and as the disease takes her ability to use her arms and legs, she will require constant care. The home Kelli and her husband Andrew share with their 12 year old son will need to be made handicap accessible, including entry ramps, widening doorways and a handicap bathroom will need to be installed. These are just the beginning of the challenges Kelli and her family will face as the disease progresses, The financial burden will be devastating, as in addition to the renovations, some of the medications Kelli will require can easily reach six figures. Your donations will also help provide handicap transportation to Kelli's many doctor appointments and counselling for her son Harry who will have to deal with the loss of his mother at a very tender age.
