Meet Kellie Hopkins. Long time LPN, Mother of one, sister to two other siblings. Kellie was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer during her annual mammogram Sept of 2021. Kellie went through extensive chemotherapy and ended up having a double mastectomy in Feb of 2022. After reconstructive surgery, They set her up for radiation to follow up after being clear in July of 2022. Kellie finished her final treatment 9/7/2022 ringing the gong of good health. After radiation Kellie was having what was told to her, side effects of the radiation which was numbness of her right leg. Then progressed to bladder issues. To falling unexpectedly and kept reporting it to her Dr. Still being told that it was side effects she pressed on with day to day activities becoming fatigued trying to take care of her 8 yr old daughter. On 10/10/2022, Kellie was forced to go to the ER by her sister (Nurse Practitioner) because she had loss muscle mass in her right leg and was continuing to have issues. During the ER visit they did multiple MRI’s and found that Kellie has a mass on her tailbone, multiple tumors along her spine, the base of her neck and one between her eyes on her brain. After Transferring her to another hospital, on 10/11/2022 the team of oncologist confirmed and delivered they news no person wants to hear. If Kellie moves for with radiation again it will prolong her life to 8months because of the aggressiveness of this cancer. Kellie has not been able to enjoy a full life with her daughter. Between Covid, treatments, surgeries, and now this…….I would like to have Kellie enjoy her remaining days building the lasting memories of her with her daughter. I would like to see her have the financial ability to at least take her daughter of a vacation of some sort and leave her something to remember her mom
Thanks to New York State for denying Kellie’s disability and help she needed, Kellie has had to use her savings she has worked hard for and has had family help her financially through this.
It between her and God now. But until then the world needs to see that smile. Thank you for reading this and showing that there is still Humility in this negative world today
